Bismillah Ar Rahman Ar Raheem

So I wonder to myself as to why I started a blog.  There are so many reasons to start one I suppose; self-promotion, boredom, political awareness and what have you.  I guess I think too highly of myself and think that others should have the wonderful opportunity to take a look at my thoughts and my life.  Now, for the ones that know me in real life will realize I am not being completely serious here, I just have a way of thinking I am amazing.  It’s healthy really; a little bit of narcissism never hurt anyone… I think.

So as my first blog entry, I figured I would outline some of the intentions behind this blog.  I asked a few brothers and sisters to contribute to this site as well.  I do not think any of us take ourselves too seriously.  This site should be an outlet for bored Muslims (and possibly some Non-Muslims) to take a look at the issues that interest my group of friends and acquaintances.  I suppose I should identify this, “us”.  Well, I will let the others define themselves in particular, but for the most part we are a bunch of Muslims, born and raised in America who have some spare time on our hands.  Most of us are college students, while one or two have already graduated and are well on their way of developing themselves in lifeless and soul-wrenching careers as accountants in one of the Big 4 Accounting firms.  (Insert One-Finger solute to Deloitte & Touche).

I, myself, am studying Economics and Political Science with a minor in Philosophy.  Basically, I am learning how to be a professional Jew.  That was a lighthearted jab at our Abrahamic cousins.  Well, with my studies aside I have a bit of spare time once in a while, as do many of my distinguished colleagues here at this establishment.

So with this spare time we decided to write about the things that are important to us.  Personally, I plan on writing about the various ways I waste my time.  These include:

1)      The books I read.

2)      The movies I watch.

3)      Random thoughts I have.

4)      Forging an identity as an American Muslim.

5)      My thoughts on Politics and Economics.

6)      A Codification of the Principle and Periphery Matters of the Nafsi Madhab

The previous list was not meant to be exhaustive in the least for there are many ways to waste time.  With that said, I suppose I should also state what this blog is not.  This blog is not:

1)              A Fatwa website… please refer to www.IslamQA.com, www.AskImam.com, and www.Sunnipath.com for your Fatwa-Shopping needs

2)              A resource for you to study Islam properly.  Please refer to www.AlMaghrib.org, www.SunniPath.org or your local Imam Saab, inshAllah

3)              A trash-bin for your Islamophobia.  Refer to any educational facility, oh, I don’t know, such as any of your local Elementary schools and what have you.  Ignorance is no way to go about life.  Also, if you are an Islamaphobe, I would encourage you to stop having relations with your sister or anyone else closely related it to you.  This seems to be a common trend amongst Islamophobes.  However, one should never generalize.   REMEMBER, not all incest-bred individuals are Islamophobes, however, all Islamophobes are incest-bred individuals.

4)              A repository for Anti-American sentiment.  I was born and raised here.  Bangladesh is not my homeland, I have never seen a camel and no, I am not taking flying lessons.   I appreciate healthy criticism of American Foreign Policy just as much as the next educated man.  However, there is a thin line between constructive criticism and implicit support of killing civilians and what have you.  (If you want to learn the Islamic stance on killing civilians, do not discuss it here, rather look up the answer from the Scholars at IslamQA or Sunnipath).  I do not want to hear your Ijtihad on an issue that scholars from the Salafi Path as well as the “Traditional” Path have already agreed upon (i.e. The impermissibility of killing non-Muslim civilians).

In conclusion, I am a rather amusing person.  I think you will agree with me after reading a few of my posts.  If you don’t, then that is fine as well.  I will still be okay inshAllah J.

REMEMBER:  Blessed are those who can laugh at themselves once in a while.
